Israel Stock Market Surges, European and US Stock Index Futures Decline

On March 2nd, the Israeli stock market opened sharply higher, with the Tel Aviv TA35 Index rising by 4.28% around 17:10 Beijing time.

That day, global stock markets generally declined.

Overall, Asia-Pacific markets saw mixed movements, with the A-shares fluctuating; the Shanghai Composite Index rose against the trend, while the Shenzhen Component, STAR Market, and ChiNext Index all declined; the Hang Seng Index and Hang Seng Tech Index both fell over 2%; the Nikkei 225 Index closed down 1.35%, and South Korea’s market was closed for a holiday.

The three major European stock indices opened sharply lower. As of the latest report, the FTSE 100 Index in the UK fell 0.74%, having dropped over 1% at one point; France’s CAC 40 and Italy’s FTSE MIB declined nearly 2%; Germany’s DAX and the Eurozone STOXX 50 both fell over 2%.

Major U.S. stock index futures also declined simultaneously, with Dow Jones, S&P 500, and Nasdaq 100 futures all down over 1%.

According to Xinhua News Agency, in the early hours of March 2nd, reporters in Beirut, Lebanon, heard continuous loud explosions. The Israel Defense Forces issued a statement saying they are targeting Hezbollah positions across Lebanon.

Lebanon’s Public Health Emergency Operations Center announced on the 2nd that, based on preliminary statistics, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have resulted in 31 deaths and 149 injuries, including 20 dead and 91 injured in southern Beirut and 11 dead and 58 injured in southern Lebanon.

Additionally, since the U.S. and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran, Iran has retaliated against U.S. military bases and Israeli targets in the Middle East, with the conflict spreading throughout the Persian Gulf.
