Caixin Since generative artificial intelligence applications represented by ChatGPT have become popular worldwide, Hong Kong has long been considered a restricted service area along with mainland China and North Korea by major European and American tech companies. However, as global AI competition intensifies, this situation is changing. On March 16, Google announced that it will gradually open the web application of its AI assistant Gemini to all individual users in Hong Kong, and it will also be expanded to mobile applications in the future.

Google Hong Kong Sales and Operations General Manager Yu Mingde stated that this expansion of the Gemini experience will boost more creativity and productivity in Hong Kong. Google will continue to responsibly build a full-stack AI ecosystem to make AI more helpful for everyone. However, as of Caixin’s publication, accessing Gemini’s web version directly in Hong Kong still shows that the service is not supported in the region.
