Over 300 Afghan Refugees Arrested In KP's Swabi
(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): More than 300 Afghan nationals have been arrested during a series of raids carried out by district police in various parts of Swabi district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
District police officials instructed local station house officers (SHOs) to maintain records of all undocumented Afghan residents within their respective jurisdictions.
The Daily Times, quoting sources, reported that a total of 341 individuals were detained during operations in Topi, Razaar, Chota Lahor tehsils and the district headquarters of Swabi.
Authorities said the raids would continue until all undocumented residents are repatriated in a peaceful and dignified manner.
The district administration has been urging refugees to return voluntarily to Afghanistan, allowing them time to wind up their businesses after Eidul Fitr.
Some refugees said they were facing difficulties in closing businesses they had built over decades, but affirmed their willingness to return peacefully.
Swabi is home to an estimated 30,000 Afghan refugees, most of whom are documented, while a minority are living illegally in refugee camps such as Gandaf Refugees Camp and Gohati Refugees Camp, as well as in farming areas and urban centres.
