Foldable Phone | Samsung Reportedly Discontinues Galaxy Z TriFold Due to High Production Costs
South Korean media reports that Samsung officially launched its first foldable triple-screen smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, at the end of last year. After four months on the market, the company plans to cease sales locally starting today, mainly due to high production costs and persistent chip price increases.
According to The Dong-A Ilbo, the phone will continue to be sold in the U.S. market until current inventory is sold out. Data shows that the Galaxy Z TriFold was available in the U.S. until the end of January, with a retail price of $2,899 (approximately HKD 22,612).
The report states that due to limited production, the device still attracts strong consumer interest, with each restock selling out within minutes. The secondary market demand is also high, with resale prices reportedly about three times the retail price.
Additionally, reports indicate that only 3,000 to 4,000 units of the Galaxy Z TriFold were released in South Korea in December last year, with a global release volume of only about 20,000 to 30,000 units.
