Shanghai Cooperation Organization Secretary General Meets with Iranian Ambassador to China

March 3, 2026, Shanghai Cooperation Organization Secretary-General Yermekbayev met with Iranian Ambassador to China Fazri in Beijing. Yermekbayev expressed condolences for the heavy casualties caused by military attacks within Iran and hoped the Iranian people remain strong, wishing peace and prosperity for the country. The Secretary-General introduced the SCO’s political and diplomatic measures regarding the Iran situation. He emphasized that SCO member states unanimously agree that Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity must be ensured, and strongly called on the United Nations and its Security Council to take immediate action to address acts that undermine international peace and security. The Iranian Ambassador to China thanked the Secretary-General for his support and stated that the SCO should continue to uphold the legitimate rights and interests of member states in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.
