North Korea’s Workers’ Party Central Committee Minister Kim Yo-jong issued a statement on the 10th condemning the U.S.-South Korea joint military exercises. Kim Yo-jong stated that since the 9th, hostile countries have fully launched the large-scale joint exercise “Freedom Shield,” once again exposing their anti-North Korea and hostile policies. She said that over 18,000 South Korean soldiers and forces from the U.S. and South Korea are participating in the exercises, which include ground, naval, air, space, and cyber operations across all domains, lasting more than 10 days. This exercise is a provocation and an invasion rehearsal aimed at confrontation with North Korea, not a “military game.” Kim Yo-jong emphasized that recent global geopolitical crises and complex international events prove that all military actions by hostile forces near North Korea’s sovereignty and security areas are indistinguishable from defense, attack, exercises, and actual combat. Therefore, an extraordinary, overwhelming, and preemptive force must be used to suppress the enemy. She also warned that military demonstrations near North Korea’s sovereignty and security areas could lead to unimaginable and terrible consequences. She stated that North Korea’s security is absolutely inviolable, and the North Korean government is unwavering in its determination to fully safeguard the security environment of the Korean Peninsula and the region.
