# T-Mobile Subscribers Will Get AI Call Translation Without Installing Apps
American mobile carrier T-Mobile is preparing to test an AI feature that translates phone calls in real time into more than 50 languages. According to The Verge.
The beta testing of the Live Translation service will begin in spring 2026. The company has already opened pre-registration for users.
“One of the biggest barriers faced by mobile users is the simplest, such as the ability to understand each other. By integrating artificial intelligence into our network, we provide more than just connectivity,” said T-Mobile CEO Shriti Gopaln.
No special apps or devices are needed to use the service. The only requirement is that the subscriber initiating the translation must be a T-Mobile user.
The feature will be available on 5G Advanced and 4G LTE networks.
“A key requirement is Voice over LTE (VoLTE) connectivity, which allows the service to reliably operate across a wide range of devices and network conditions,” said T-Mobile President John Sohu.
The function supports VoLTE, VoNR, and VoWiFi standards, making it accessible to a broad range of users regardless of network type.
Beta participants will be able to activate Live Translation for free and without time limits. Initially, calls must be made to the number 87, but voice command support for Hey T-Mobile will be added in the future.
The service works during an active call and does not store audio recordings or transcripts of conversations.
“It is designed for real-time translation and then terminates without saving the call content,” Sohu emphasized.
Recall that in March 2025, Europe’s largest telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom announced an AI smartphone based on the Perplexity chatbot.
