Shattering the "Illusion of Getting Rich Quickly" applies equally to all friends, whether they know it or not, especially in Web3! (Using my own experience to tell the love-hate story between me and "getting rich quickly") First, I want to clarify that this article is written for the general public—that is, most people! If you think you are one of the rare few, a top trader who can cut through all emotions, or an expert at catching short-term opportunities, then you can stop reading right now. You are not in this category. Now, let's get to the main point! The following are all real events that happened to me. I grew up in an ordinary Chinese city family, and from a young age, I was instilled with the idea of getting rich quickly and standing out from the crowd! Background: My family was wealthy when I was a child, but after I turned 10, some changes occurred at home, and we were no longer affluent. (The specific reasons are not important.) As a result, I developed the idea of "standing out" and "getting rich quickly," which was ingrained in my subconscious. Looking back, I’ll share some key events: (This is not to tell stories but to mark the cognitive traps I repeatedly verified) 1️⃣ I used my own and friends’ investment funds to trade A-shares for many years! Of course, I caught some big bull stocks and made money! But in the end, I wanted to get rich faster, so I increased leverage, and when the bear market arrived, I lost everything—selling my house after my own funds ran out. 2️⃣ After failing in the stock market, I learned to trade derivatives, hoping to "turn things around" and "get rich quickly." I once used several bitcoins as capital, and within a few days, it multiplied several times to nearly 20 bitcoins. Later, I increased the leverage again, but I lost everything—including principal and interest—and even added more funds, which I also lost. 3️⃣ I believed a certain Web3 blockchain game’s "economic model" was the best at the time, with the potential to get rich quickly, and led over 100 brothers into it. Over 90% of the people in that game were directly or indirectly recruited by me! The project team eventually ran away. Of course, the project team didn’t make money either—they just wanted to develop the game, but lacked the ability. All of these are based on my underlying logic still being in the "getting rich quickly" stage, and the actions I took! I’m not here to complain, but to say that for me, these are "life samples" bought at a huge cost, and I want to share them with friends! Currently, I no longer believe in the so-called "getting rich quickly." At least, for me, those are just unrealistic fantasies. Because we Chinese tend to be results-oriented—like "getting rich quickly," or ignoring the process and only caring about the result! And this is precisely the stumbling block in personal growth and the path to wealth! Because "wealth creation" can actually be "copied" by ordinary people, but with one caveat: this doesn’t mean short-term "getting rich quickly," but a gradual process of becoming increasingly wealthy! I remember Navar once said that even if he were to go broke, as long as he was dropped into any English-speaking country, he could rebuild his wealth within 5 to 10 years, or make a comeback. To put it in my words: it’s about taking one step at a time, doing what you love or are good at, growing steadily, and eventually becoming wealthy. Navar also said he has never achieved short-term wealth; it’s always been about step-by-step accumulation, gradually reaching his current scale! Some friends might say, "In a bull market, there are indeed some people who get rich quickly—those who become free in a short time, for example!" That’s true, but I just want to say that even if some people gain wealth in the short term and get rich quickly, if their mental maturity doesn’t keep pace with their wealth, they might not be able to handle it and could be swallowed by it. For example, indulging in extravagance, drunkenness, and materialism—if wealth comes too easily, they won’t take the risk of gambling. One day, they will still return what they gained to the market unchanged. We also know many cases: people who get rich quickly and then fall back into poverty, or even commit suicide! Don’t believe in those "fairy tales" of debt and then rebounding to wealth. Those are only achieved by a very small minority because what you see are just the "survivor bias"—those who survived and are telling the story. It may seem like everything they say is correct, but in reality, you don’t know what price they paid to get there. And they just haven’t yet stepped away from the "gambling table." A gambler’s life is always uncertain—never knowing what will happen in the next second! So, after all this, I just want to tell everyone through my own experience: there is no such thing as a beautiful myth of "getting rich quickly." It’s better to abandon illusions early and walk your own path step by step. Your life isn’t Elon Musk’s, nor Jack Ma’s, nor anyone else’s idol life. Your life can only be your own. But if you can see reality clearly and move forward steadily, at least you will become better and better. You will keep growing and improving. Whether you will ultimately "get rich quickly" depends on whether the times choose you, which is beyond our control. Just like the phrase from the People’s Daily criticizing Jack Ma: "There is only an era of Jack Ma, not a Jack Ma era." For the full video, please check out my YouTube channel.
