Beware of MetaMask's new phishing scam: Fake 2FA verification pages are stealing users' seed phrases

Abstract generation in progress

【Blockchain Rhythm】Recently, a malicious phishing scheme targeting MetaMask has been exposed, and many users have fallen victim. The scammers have forged a realistic “Security Verification” page claiming that you need to complete two-factor authentication, but in reality, they are secretly trying to steal your seed phrase.

Their usual tactic is as follows: first, they pop up an official-looking security alert interface, then display a fake 2FA verification process, accompanied by a countdown timer to create a sense of urgency, making you panic. Finally, they trick you into entering your wallet seed phrase—once you hand over this key, your assets are fully exposed.

The key point is that these fake pages are highly realistic, and without careful inspection, it’s easy to be deceived. Wallet users are advised to stay vigilant: the official MetaMask team will never ask you to input your seed phrase proactively. Any such request is a scam. Remember this, and you’ll be able to avoid falling into the trap.

Here they come again. These scammers are getting more and more ruthless. I knew there was definitely something suspicious about the countdown trick.

ngl the urgency tactic hits different when there's a countdown timer... classic behavioral econ play. anyway never ever give out seed phrases, like statistically speaking that's peer-reviewed disaster

This trick is exactly the same as some phishing contracts we've audited before. The countdown timer that creates a sense of urgency works on the same principle as the time lock vulnerability in smart contracts—both are exploiting human psychological weaknesses. Mnemonics are always the key; once handed over, the entire permission control is compromised, making it even more deadly than any reentrancy vulnerability.

It's another phishing attempt. These people really go to great lengths... The countdown tactic is indeed ruthless; it just makes people lose their heads and hand over their assets.

Oh my God, here they go again. The countdown scare tactic is really ruthless... My friend almost fell for it, luckily I stopped him in time. --- The mnemonic phrase is like a second life; whoever needs it, gets it—no exceptions. --- MetaMask really should add a big red warning in the wallet; this scam tactic is too deep. --- So, you still need to stay alert. These days, phishing pages look more real than the real ones. --- Scammers are really ruthless. They create a sense of urgency and bluff to trick a large number of people into handing over their keys. --- Just remember one thing: the official team will never ask you for your seed phrase. If they do, it's a trap.
