Recently, I discussed a common topic with several traders—whether making money through shorting or going long.

On the surface, shorting indeed has its advantages. Once BTC enters a correction phase, altcoins tend to plunge along, and profits from short positions seem to come faster. The thrill of quickly stop-loss and close positions is much more satisfying than the agony of waiting for a rebound or rally.

But interestingly, many seasoned traders around me, even when they are bearish on the market, rarely actually open short positions. Their usual approach is to stay flat, wait patiently, and hold their coins—purely going long and not shorting.

The reason isn't complicated— from a cyclical perspective, there's no ceiling for prices to go up, but eventually, they will bottom out on the downside. Over a longer timeframe, those who go long tend to laugh last. This isn't a mindset issue, but a probability one.

So, how do you usually handle such situations? Do you frequently switch strategies, or stick to a single style? I’d love to hear everyone’s actual trading approaches.

The thrill of shorting is indeed satisfying, but the feeling of returning to the pre-liberation era with a single move is even more exciting haha Waiting in a short position is truly the ultimate move, a hundred times better than reckless trading I only go long, anyway the bear market is just like that, in the long run, the odds are on my side

That shorting thrill is really not worth it; losing money actually happens even faster. You still have to believe in the long-term logic; staying in cash and waiting is actually the hardest part.

The thrill of shorting is truly addictive, but looking back at the account, the wealth curve for the long positions is much more impressive. I, who frequently switch strategies, am now a cautionary tale, losing money but gaining experience. I'm afraid to short when bearish, that's my normal state—honestly holding coins and waiting for a rebound. The cycle concept is correct, but executing it is really difficult—who doesn't want to make quick money? Ultimately, it's all about mindset—being in cash is much better than suffering a margin call.
