Trump plans to announce Powell's successor several months in advance, with a shortlist of five final candidates.
On October 28, Coin界网 reported, U.S. President Trump stated on Monday that he might announce his nominee to replace Fed Chair Powell before the end of the year. Powell's term will end next May, and the candidate pool has been narrowed down to five final candidates. Treasury Secretary Bassett plans to conduct a second round of interviews with the current list of candidates next month, after which he will submit a more streamlined nomination list for the President's consideration. Bassett revealed on Monday that the five finalists include two current governors who were initially nominated to the Federal Reserve Board by Trump: Christopher Waller and Michelle Bowman, who also serves as Vice Chair for Bank Supervision. Currently, two candidates are widely regarded as frontrunners: White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett and former Federal Reserve Governor Kevin Warsh. The fifth candidate on the list is Rick Rieder, a senior executive at BlackRock, who oversees the company's massive bond business.
