Vitalik praised Sandeep and Polygon for their contributions to the Ethereum ecosystem.
[Vitalik praises Sandeep and Polygon for their contributions to the Ethereum ecosystem] Vitalik posted on the X platform, expressing deep gratitude for Sandeep's personal contributions and the immense value that Polygon has brought to the Ethereum ecosystem. To summarize: Polygon has hosted Polymarket, which may be a typical example of a “non-monotonic finance” application that is truly successful and provides real value. Polygon also hosts many other applications that require high scalability. Polygon invested a significant amount of resources in the early stages of ZK-EVM proofs, greatly advancing the development in the field, whether by bringing in Jordi Baylina's team or through other efforts. Polygon has built the infrastructure for proof aggregation (AggLayer) and many other technologies. Regarding ZK issues (after all, to achieve the complete security guarantees that L2 should provide, a proof system is indeed required), I can understand Polygon's dilemma: they supported Jordi's team wholeheartedly when the technology was still immature and not yet suitable for production, thus contributing to the early and most difficult learning curve, but at that stage, it was difficult for them to directly benefit from the results. Since then, the market structure has differentiated into L2 teams and ZK teams (such as @SuccinctLabs, @RiscZero, the recent @brevis_zk, and many other teams) existing as independent entities. I believe this is more reasonable than the previous method where each L2 developed its own (OP or ZK) proof system internally: it is very difficult to be both the best L2 and the best ZK team, as both require completely different skill sets. For my part, I hope that Polygon can quickly adopt the ready-made, already very mature ZK technology directly and apply it to the PoS chain, obtaining full guarantees from Ethereum L1 for the complete first phase and subsequent second phase.
