Money, money... The question that doesn't give me peace is - how much of it is there in the world? I figured it out on my fingers: if we take all the money in the world and divide it equally, how much would each person get?

According to the latest data, the total value of all the world's money that can be physically touched or quickly withdrawn from accounts is around $36.8 trillion. This includes all coins, banknotes, and bank deposits. Of course, if we dig deeper and include various pension accounts, bonds, and other financial nonsense, the amount will soar to $91 trillion. And if we add up all the assets, it will be astronomical.

But I have always been interested in something else - how much would fall to the brother? If some mad ruler decided to carry out a "great redistribution", what would we get?

The population of the planet is currently about 8.2 billion people. This means everyone would get about $4500. Enough for a used Lada Granta, but definitely not for a Dacia Sandero, as some optimists claim. To buy a Sandero, at least $15000 is needed, and such money could only be distributed to everyone if calculated using the M2 method accounting for various deposits.

By the way, it's funny that in Spain there is more money per capita - about $33500. Apparently, the Spanish are better at saving than others, or they just spend less on all sorts of nonsense.

All of this is, of course, a game of imagination. I am not calling for anyone to take and divide, but the numbers speak for themselves - there isn't as much money in the world as it seems. And if it were distributed equally, we would all be driving quite modest cars, rather than Rolls-Royces.

But here is what is really interesting - since the year 2000, the global money supply has grown from $26.5 trillion to $129.3 trillion. A fivefold increase! So where is all this new money? Clearly not in my pocket...
