ALERT: The EU wants to scan your private messages (it's still relevant)

A worrying project is advancing in Europe. The European Union is pushing its "Chat Control" law. It could change everything. And not for the better.

Divided Europe

Imagine a little. The EU forcing WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram to analyze EVERY message you send. Even your intimate photos. Despite the promised encryption.

Most countries are already in favor. France has changed its mind. It is now supportive. Belgium too. And Hungary. Spain is following the movement. Germany is still hesitant. Its approval could speed everything up, it seems.

How would it work

The system is frightening. A software on your phone. It would read everything BEFORE the encryption. It's strange. Like someone reading your mail at home before putting it in the envelope.

Their excuse

They speak of fighting against child pornography content. Noble cause. The real criminals use other means, however. It is us who will lose our privacy.

For you, concretely

Your messages are monitored. Age verification everywhere. No more online anonymity. An algorithm will judge whether what you say is "acceptable". Not very reassuring.

The resistance is organizing

Associations are protesting. They invite you to contact your MEPs. To sign petitions.

Pavel Durov, the creator of Telegram, warned France. His arrest last year says a lot. He even revealed censorship requests before certain elections. Not very clear, all of this.

An old Italian proverb says: "Freedom is like air - you only realize its value when it is missing." It makes you think.

To remember

This law would change your phone usage. Your "private" conversations would no longer be private. Does that worry you? Now is the time to act. Or not. But at least, you know.
