🤝 MrBeast: creating value for the community through investments and charity
MrBeast considers the multi-million dollar income from advertising primarily as a tool for further developing his digital ecosystem on YouTube. Jimmy Donaldson has repeatedly emphasized that personal accumulation of wealth is not his goal - he plans to give away all his earnings before he dies.
At the same time, the blogger's warehouse can be found gold bars, Lamborghinis, and stacks of cash — these are props left over from filming. From truly personal purchases, MrBeast allows himself a Tesla Model X electric car and a custom-made refrigerator worth $50,000 with a special feature: the chef can replenish it from the outside without distracting the blogger from work.
Large-scale investments in the content ecosystem
Just as successful projects in the digital economy reinvest funds into development, MrBeast allocates a large portion of his income to creating new content:
In total, Donaldson spends 7-8 million dollars monthly on YouTube projects and offline businesses — this is a model of sustainable growth through constant reinvestment.
Some videos require exceptionally high investments. For example, recreating the series "Squid Game" in real life ( without killings ) cost the blogger over 4 million dollars. In comparison, the production of the original Netflix series cost 21.4 million dollars ( at 2.4 million per hour-long episode ).
One of the most expensive projects was a reality show with a private island as the grand prize. According to the winner, the island itself cost around 2 million dollars, not including the costs of content production.
Interestingly, MrBeast is absolutely not worried about such colossal expenses: "Even if I don't upload new videos, old videos continue to gather views. This money would be enough for me to live on," he notes.
Philanthropy as the Foundation for Community Engagement
Charity is a key element of Donaldson's activities. His approach to social responsibility reflects the principles of transparency and collective good that are characteristic of progressive digital communities.
The story began when 19-year-old Jimmy received his first major advertising contract for $10,000 and decided to give the entire amount to a homeless person. "I don't want to brag about it, I just wanted to do it," he explains. "I live in a world where you can make twenty by burning ten."
By December 2018, MrBeast had donated over a million dollars through his videos and earned the title of "the biggest philanthropist on YouTube." His charity manifests itself in both large-scale campaigns and small gestures — for example, unexpectedly transferring money to a little-known streamer with a couple of viewers.
Two major initiatives stand out, demonstrating the strength of the organized community:
🌳 #TeamTrees. Donaldson organized a campaign where every dollar donated meant the planting of one tree in Yellowstone National Park. The promotion involved tech blogger Simon Hertz, streamer Ninja, and DJ Marshmello. Significant contributions were made by Elon Musk, Jack Dorsey, and Susan Wojcicki. Together, they raised 20 million dollars, and by February 2023, the goal of planting 20 million trees was achieved.
🐳 #TeamSeas. As part of this project, every dollar was directed to collect one pound ( approximately 450 grams ) of plastic from the oceans, rivers, and beaches. MrBeast attracted over a thousand bloggers from 145 countries with a total audience of over a billion people. By March 2023, they reached a goal of 30 million dollars.
This approach to large-scale philanthropy through transparent, understandable goals and active community engagement creates an impressive effect. According to Donaldson, people regularly report that thanks to his videos, their children want to pick up trash on beaches or help in soup kitchens for the homeless.
Such projects demonstrate how a well-structured ecosystem can become a tool not only for earning but also for positive social changes — a principle shared by many progressive digital communities.
