Meta strikes hard against scammers, and it was about time!

Damn, it's really getting intense at WhatsApp! Meta just kicked off 6.8 million shady accounts. Why? Those bastards were preparing some ultra vicious scams, including that piece of crap "pig butchering" ( literally "fattening the pig" ) - a romance scam to steal your cryptos.

The Scam Machine Revealed

They're not amateurs, I'm telling you! We're talking about real web mafias, hidden somewhere in Southeast Asia, who even exploit poor guys in modern slavery situations. Honestly, it's disgusting.

The technique of "I love you, me neither"

Their strategy is so predictable that it is sad:

  • They send you a message as if it were a mistake
  • They flirt with you for weeks, making you believe in true love
  • Once you're really hooked, BAM! "Honey(e), I've found a great investment..."
  • And the cherry on top: you might be talking to a whole team of slackers who are taking turns trying to scam you.

AI at the service of thieves

These bastards are now using artificial intelligence to:

  • To speak to you in your language as if they were born next door to you
  • Create ultra-realistic photos and videos
  • To serve you more credible stories than the promises of our politicians

Most operate from Cambodia, Myanmar, or Thailand - one could say they feel untouchable.

How to avoid getting screwed over?

Meta balance some tips (for once they are useful):

Verify that the person really exists: require a video call or a real meeting.

Ask yourself the right questions: why does this guy/this girl I don't know want me to put my money into cryptocurrencies so badly?

If it smells like a scam: easy profit promises = 100% scam

The Meta Council

Think before replying to a sketchy message, especially if it's a stranger promising you wealth without effort.

The only good news

Meta uncovered these 6.8 million accounts BEFORE they became active. At least, they avoided millions of potential scams.

Crypto scams on WhatsApp are a jungle. Criminal organizations use psychological manipulation techniques to steal from you. Stay alert, always check who you are talking to, and remember that if it sounds too good to be true... it is false!
