The 10 crypto influencers to absolutely follow (all media combined)
Let me talk to you about the so-called "masters" of crypto who dominate our media landscape. Between us, I find that some deserve their place while others are just well-placed parrots.
As a passionate investor for years, I've seen these "experts" come and go, and honestly, few have really impressed me. But hey, they shape opinion, so we might as well know who they are, right?
Social networks have exploded and these influencers are multiplying like rabbits. TikTok, YouTube, X... they are everywhere! Most recycle the same content across all platforms - business strategy requires it.
Here is my personal top 10, with my unfiltered observations:
1. Peter McCormack
The guy thinks he’s a revolutionary with his podcast "What Bitcoin Does". Yes, he has interesting content, but honestly, his meeting with Bukele in El Salvador? Pure PR operation. His 500,000 subscribers give him a huge platform, but I remain skeptical about some of his analyses which can sometimes be overly simplistic.
2. Charles Hoskinson
The mathematician turned crypto guru. Co-founder of Ethereum and then went on to create Cardano - a classic story of oversized ego in this field. His speech at the World Economic Forum? Nice and all, but his technological promises often take years to materialize, if they ever do. His nearly 1 million subscribers hang on his every word.
3. Coin Bureau
Ah, Mike Jenkins and his channel with 2.35 million subscribers... Quite balanced content, I must admit. But this facade of impartiality hides many commercial interests - merchandising, partnerships... The crypto education business is lucrative!
4. Michael Saylor
The CEO of MicroStrategy who has bet everything on Bitcoin. Hats off for the audacity, but is it really conviction or stubbornness? His 2.9 million followers religiously follow his posts on Bitcoin, but I wonder if they realize that he has a vested interest in the price going up...
5. Anthony Pompliano
"Pomp" as he's called... His newsletter reaches 235,000 people. His podcast is pretty good, I listen to it sometimes. But be careful of the carefully selected guests to reinforce his often overly optimistic view of the market. It's smart entertainment, but keep your critical mind!
6. CZ
Changpeng Zhao leads the largest exchange platform in the world. His 9.1 million followers devour his tweets. But let's be honest, when you manage such a machine with so many stakes involved, objectivity is impossible. His empire is not immune to regulators either...
7. Vitalik Buterin
The prodigy child of Ethereum. At 19, he wanted to "create an improved Bitcoin." The ERC-20 standard owes him a lot. But between us, his ego is only matched by his genius. His visions are fascinating but sometimes disconnected from market realities and real uses.
8. Layah Heilpern
Her YouTube channel has 467,000 subscribers. She skillfully rides on multiple platforms. Her content mixes crypto and lifestyle - a winning recipe to attract a less technical audience. Nice to watch, but sometimes light on in-depth technical analysis.
9. Andreas Antonopoulos
One of the respected veterans. His book "Mastering Bitcoin" is a reference. His talks are generally substantial, unlike many others. He remains true to the original philosophy of cryptocurrencies, which is becoming rare in this field where the lure of profit often dominates.
10. Sheldon Evans
728,000 subscribers on YouTube... His technical analyses are accurate, but his background as a photographer is evident in his very visual style, sometimes at the expense of depth. Beginners love him for his simplicity, but experienced traders will find little revelation there.
Honestly, these influencers shape opinions but follow them with caution. Most have obvious interests in promoting certain cryptos or visions. What they will never tell you? Their investment failures or when they are completely wrong.
For my part, I follow a few to stay informed, but my investment strategy is based on much more than their often self-interested advice.
