A famous cryptocurrency influencer conducted an unusual social experiment, raising over $1 million in [Ethereum] from his followers without promising anything in return.
Experiment Details
A blogger created an Ethereum wallet with the telling name "yougetnothing.eth" ("you get nothing") and published its address on social media. Within 7 minutes, the wallet received about $80 in ETH, and within a day, the total donations exceeded $1 million.
At the time of writing the article, the wallet balance was over 579 ETH. Notably, many transactions were repetitive in nature: ten addresses sent 5-7 ETH, three addresses transferred 10 ETH, six addresses donated 3-4 ETH, and forty-two addresses contributed exactly 1 ETH.
Reaction of the crypto community
The experiment sparked heated discussions in the crypto community. Some suggested that participants hoped to receive something in return. Others expressed the opinion that this could be an attempt at money laundering or tax optimization.
The blogger congratulated those who joined the "millionaires' club," reminding them that they "will get nothing," and took the opportunity to criticize the cryptocurrency sector, calling it an "absolute joke."
