Scroll zkEVM Introduction: From Configuration to Experience On-Chain Tic-Tac-Toe
Scroll zkEVM Beginner's Guide
This article provides beginners with the basics of interacting with L2 Dapps. We will explore how to get started with Scroll zkEVM and interact with Ethereum L2 Dapp. The skills learned here can theoretically be applied to any other Layer 2 network. To demonstrate, we will use an on-chain tic-tac-toe game running on the Scroll L2 network.
Preparation Work
First, you need to install Metamask or a similar cryptocurrency wallet. If you have already installed Metamask, you can skip this step. Otherwise, please choose the appropriate version to install based on your browser or mobile device.
Step 1: Configure Test Network
Scroll zkEVM has currently launched its alpha testnet, which is a layer 2 network compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). This means that smart contracts written for Ethereum can be directly deployed on Scroll zkEVM. The Scroll L2 alpha testnet is currently connected to the Goerli test network of Ethereum L1.
To set up the Scroll L2 network, please visit the official Scroll website and follow the instructions to add the network to your Metamask. At the same time, if you haven't added the Goerli network yet, please add it as well.
Step 2: Obtain test ETH
After setting up the network, you need to obtain some Goerli testnet ETH from a faucet. There are several available faucet options, each with different features and limitations. Choose the method that best suits your needs to acquire test ETH.
Step 3: Transfer ETH from Goerli to Scroll L2
After obtaining enough Goerli testnet ETH, the next step is to transfer a portion of it to the Scroll L2 testnet. Complete this step using the bridging interface provided by the official source. Please note that this process may take some time to complete.
Step 4: Experience the On-chain Tic-tac-toe Game
You can now try playing the on-chain Tic-Tac-Toe on Scroll L2. Connect your wallet to the game page and create a new game. You can invite friends to join or use another wallet as the second player. The game also includes a fun feature: if you make a mistake or don't want to lose the game at any point, you can reset the game at any time.
Step 5 (Optional): Explore More Dapps on Scroll L2
If you want to try other Dapps and games on Scroll, you can check the official Dapp list provided, where there are more interesting projects waiting for you to explore.
With this introductory guide, you should be able to start performing basic operations and experiencing decentralized applications on Scroll zkEVM. As you gain a deeper understanding of this ecosystem, you will discover more interesting possibilities and use cases.
