Scroll Mainnet launch breaks through $19.3 million TVL, co-founder reveals key focus for future development.
Scroll Co-founder Haichen: The Mainnet launch is a new starting point, focusing on real-world applications
Scroll, as an open-source Layer 2 solution led by Asian entrepreneurs, has always been a focal point for the community. After more than two years of development and one year of testing, Scroll officially launched its Mainnet in October 2023. As of October 27, the total locked value on the Scroll chain has exceeded $19.3 million, with over 147,000 Mainnet wallet addresses and a total of more than 860,000 verified transactions.
Recently, Scroll co-founder Haichen Shen was interviewed, sharing the development history and future plans of Scroll.
Haichen stated that the launch of the Mainnet is an important milestone for Scroll and a new starting point. The team has completed the development of infrastructure components such as zkEVM circuits and block generation sequencers over the past two and a half years. After extensive testing and multiple security audits, users can now bridge assets from Ethereum to Scroll and use various applications.
When discussing why they chose the zkRollup solution based on zkEVM, Haichen explained that zk technology provides users with stronger security guarantees while shortening finality times. The EVM equivalence allows developers to use the development tools on Ethereum directly without modification, reducing development difficulty and potential risks.
Technically, Scroll writes zero-knowledge proof circuits in a way that is closest to EVM and supports the most precompiled contracts. The sequencer is deployed based on Go-Ethereum, maintaining a high degree of compatibility with Ethereum's native API.
Regarding ecological development, Haichen stated that the current progress is in line with expectations. In addition to DeFi applications, Scroll will also focus on supporting stablecoin payments, AA wallets, and other real-world applications, as well as public goods projects that benefit the entire ecosystem. He revealed that there will be incentive activities aimed at developers in the future, which may involve using NFTs to encourage developers to deploy contracts on Scroll.
Haichen believes that the competition in the entire Layer 2 ecosystem has just begun. In the future, it is necessary to further improve the level of decentralization, enhance security, and attract more developers to participate in innovation. He emphasized that the Layer 2 market is not a zero-sum game, but a field with vast development potential.
