Foresight News, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin posted a discussion on the forum “Formalizing the goal of decentralization in the context of higher L1 gas limits and 2020s technology”, emphasizing that “we need to be very clear about what our fundamental goal in terms of decentralization is: what attributes are we trying to give to users, and what red lines are we not willing to cross?” Vitalik defines three types of nodes: light, medium, and heavy, and also proposes considerations for node running costs and resource consumption. “We need to reach a clearer consensus on the answers to these questions as soon as possible,” it said. These answers will define which Layer-1 Gas Limits are secure, and which EIPs are most important and need to be prioritized to maximize the Gas Limit/decentralized trade-off curve."
