California Governor: Trump's West Coast oil drilling plan is a "dead end"

Abstract generation in progress

California Governor Newsom stated on November 12th that the Trump administration’s proposal to sell new offshore oil drilling rights on the U.S. West Coast is “doomed to fail from the start.” Previously, U.S. media reported that the proposal drafted by Trump administration officials paved the way for auctioning oil and gas leases in the U.S. Pacific waters. The government also plans to outline potential drilling rights sales near Alaska and in the Gulf of Mexico. However, Trump administration officials have now ruled out the possibility of new offshore oil leasing on the U.S. East Coast, as previous auction plans had raised concerns among Republican officials. Newsom said the plan “is a dead end in California — doomed to fail from the start.” He added, “Interestingly, he didn’t put this plan at Mar-a-Lago. That’s truly shameful.” Newsom was referring to Trump’s resort in Florida.
