The U.S. Court of Appeals stated that Trump can currently continue to use the military in Los Angeles.

Gate News bot reports that, according to Bloomberg, the U.S. Court of Appeals ruled that President Donald Trump can continue to use the National Guard to respond to protests in Los Angeles, in the face of legal challenges regarding his use of military benefits.

On Thursday, a panel of three judges in San Francisco ruled that the Trump administration could continue to deploy the California National Guard to respond to the situation, which is a victory for the White House. In fact, this did not change the on-the-ground situation in Los Angeles, where the federal government has already deployed troops for over a week.

The ruling on Thursday is not the final decision and may be immediately challenged. California can appeal the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court or to a larger panel of the same appellate court. A hearing will also be held on Friday in the lower court that previously ordered the federal government to return control of the troops to California.

California and the Trump administration have been at odds over the federal government’s response to the protests, including the deployment of thousands of National Guard soldiers from the state and hundreds of Marines.
