According to a report by the Financial Associated Press on December 4, Nature recently published two blockbuster studies: the latest artificial intelligence (AI)-driven platform GNoME (Materials Exploration Graph Network) has been able to discover and synthesize new inorganic compounds on its own, including the discovery of more than 2.2 million stable structures, and the creation of 41 new materials in 17 days, which are far faster and more accurate than humans.

According to the qubit report, Google's DeepMind has developed a new material discovery tool, with the help of AI tools, discovered 2.2 million theoretically stable new crystal materials, not only increased the accuracy of predicting material stability from 50% to 80%, but also 380,000 have been put into testing, and the paper has been published in Nature. Google's DeepMind says the research equates to nearly 800 years of knowledge, given that only 28,000 stable materials have been discovered in the last 10 years. This AI tool is called GNoME (Graph Networks for Materials Exploration), which is a Graph Neural Network (GNN) that uses active learning to discover new materials. According to reports, researchers have synthesized 736 materials in the laboratory to prove that the crystals calculated by GNoME can be synthesized. In addition, synthetic materials may also be used as a guide for the design of new materials, or as new datasets to train and optimize other AI models.

On November 30, Google's DeepMind showcased the AI tool GNoME in the journal Nature and introduced the relevant applications of AI in materials science. It is reported that DeepMind has discovered 2.2 million new crystals using GNoME, of which 380,000 crystals are stable materials that can be manufactured in the laboratory and are expected to be used in batteries or superconductors. DeepMind claims that it would take 800 years to calculate these materials by humans alone.
