Algorand Launches “Algoland” — On-Chain Quests That Gamify Web3 Exploration
The Algorand Foundation has unveiled Algoland, a 13-week campaign that transforms exploring its ecosystem into a series of interactive, on-chain quests. The initiative allows participants to experiment with DeFi, NFTs, and blockchain gaming, all while earning rewards.
Speaking during Cointelegraph’s latest AMA, Marc Vanlerberghe, Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer at Algorand, described Algoland as “an introduction to both the technology and the community,” emphasizing that it bridges education and engagement in a single experience.
How Algoland Works
Each week of the campaign introduces a new theme designed to highlight different aspects of the Algorand ecosystem. The first week focuses on wallet setup and referrals, followed by prediction markets powered by Alpha Arcade. Participants earn points for every quest they complete, and finishing all challenges within a week unlocks an exclusive NFT and eligibility for weekly prizes.
Points also accumulate toward the overall prize pool, with referrals playing a key role in boosting participants’ totals. As Vanlerberghe explained, completing a quest grants 1,000 points, while each successful referral earns an additional 300 — reinforcing community growth as a central mechanic.
Rewards with a Twist
Prizes range from unique experiences to major rewards, including 100,000 ALGO and a trip for two. Weekly winners can also expect unconventional gifts such as a psychic reading during “Prediction Week,” a Pac-Man arcade machine, or even a year’s supply of steak. Vanlerberghe said the campaign aims to go beyond transactional incentives: “It’s about curiosity, fun, and community.”
Fully On-Chain Transparency
Every aspect of Algoland operates directly on-chain. Quests are executed through smart contracts, while winners are selected using Algorand’s verifiable random function (VRF) — the same cryptographic mechanism that underpins the network’s consensus. Vanlerberghe highlighted that this transparency serves as a real-world demonstration of Algorand’s capabilities, noting, “The fact that we can run the entire campaign on-chain is a proof point in itself.”
Building for the Long Term
Beyond short-term engagement, the campaign’s broader goal is to deepen user understanding of Algorand’s infrastructure and applications. Participants will have opportunities to engage with DeFi protocols, explore NFT tools, and experience blockchain gaming within the network’s ecosystem.
Vanlerberghe emphasized that Algorand was built for real-world scalability, catering to both retail and institutional users. “Algorand is a general-purpose blockchain, ready for mass adoption. It solved fundamental issues years ago that still challenge other chains today,” he said.
Gamifying the Web3 Journey
By framing ecosystem discovery as an interactive adventure, Algorand is testing a model that blends education, community participation, and gamified rewards. The approach reflects a growing trend in Web3: making complex technologies approachable by turning them into engaging, on-chain experiences.
