The Anhui court ruled that selling cryptocurrency is an act of illegal enrichment.
The Intermediate People's Court of Dong Lang ( An Huy ) has dismissed Mr. Ding's lawsuit for "unjust enrichment" in the Tether transaction with Mr. Wu, asserting that cryptocurrency transactions have no legal value in China. This ruling emphasizes that losses related to digital assets are not protected by law, thereby reinforcing the legal system's stance of not recognizing cryptocurrency.
The move is in line with the overall policy of the Chinese government, which has implemented cautious management measures and restrictions on cryptocurrencies to mitigate financial risks and protect economic order. Although the lawsuit may affect the confidence of domestic individual traders, the global market has not recorded significant fluctuations.
As of September 23, 2025, there have been no comments from the People's Bank of China or Tether's leadership regarding the incident.
